A walnut hiking hare with a satchel and an over the shoulder sack, circa 1870. Stamped: Souvenir de Fontainebleau. Although the stamp is obviously French, the carving is without doubt Swiss. How this Swiss carving ended up with a French stamp is a mystery…however the presumption is that the French were not above buying carvings produced by the Swiss and selling them as local souvenirs.
